still life with packaging

2017 — Photography — Zalucky Contemporary, Toronto

Where 16th-century still life paintings depicted produce that was wilted, dirty, and visibly connected to the earth, contemporary supermarket items arrive wrapped in plastic, preserved in massive chillers, their origins obscured. The series captures everyday grocery items through the industrialized textures created by packaging — rendering them beautiful and sumptuous, but also distorted and otherworldly.

Exhibited at Zalucky Contemporary as part of Onions, Life and Hotdogs on Parade, June–July 2017.
